Personal Injuries Can Be Avoided But I Have Seen Some Interesting Accidents}

Submitted by: Geo Clark

I never paid much attention when we went place to place as a young teenager because I wasn’t driving.

We lived back east in snow country. Sometimes, what would be an ugly accident was saved by a monster snow bank. In the winter time, a typical two-car accident became a 10 to 20 car pileup. When this happens, the blame game begins. No one would believe how many people just had a collision in a brand new vehicle, until they have been in an accident. In the last pile up I saw, the car behind hit the car in the front very hard. Five cars behind them couldn’t stop fast enough. They became a pile of cars in the ice and snow.

Logic would say that everyone needs to keep even more distance between cars in bad driving conditions. I have lived in both southern and northern California. This does not happen. If it did, I would not have to drive 2 hours on side streets to get home on accident days (almost every day). When I learned to drive, it was one car length per 10 miles of speed. The distance should be increased during bad weather.

These days some drivers drive as if the weather was perfect no matter what the conditions are. Do we really need to be somewhere that bad? The answer is no. I would rather be late for work or an appointment and live. I don’t want to ever hear some Doctor tell me that I may not walk again because I needed to save five minutes of time.

I have also talked with folks after accidents. Normally, people go through their insurance company and the other parties insurance company to settle claims. The reality is that if you are really injured in a bad way, you are better served going through a personal injury lawyer or a car accident lawyer. The note would be especially if there is a possibility of long term injuries that could impact your daily life.

What often happens is that injured parties are offered settlements? They seem pretty reasonable at the moment. In the short term, they take care of the immediate needs including bills and medical issues.

As time passes, they don’t heal that well. Now, they are not able to function at home or at work. They end up losing their job, which stinks. That same person is not able to do physically what they could do a year ago. I only know a few people who had this happen. You don’t need a short term settlement. You need to maintain integrity and still get a settlement that gives you proper care and provides for your family if necessary.

I would say I wrote this article as a reminder to be extra careful driving in bad weather. Yes, we all should be as defensive and safe as possible. Leave early if you are worried about being late for work.

On the other side of things, if you are injured in an accident, you have nothing to lose by consulting a car accident attorney. Normally, they get a percentage of your settlement. So, if you are in a bad accident with injuries, look out for yourself.
